Export from Thailand to Canada

A Thailand-to-Canada shipment plan should start with the product's admissibility and the Canadian importer, not a generic ocean rate. Food, natural materials, and manufactured goods can need very different information before the buyer commits to the order.

Discuss a Shipment

Identify the commodity before selecting the route

Use a specific product description rather than Thai products or general merchandise. Record materials, intended use, manufacturing origin, and whether the goods contain food, plant, or animal material. These details determine which questions need specialist review.

For food or agricultural goods, consult CFIA's current import resources and AIRS using the actual commodity and destination details. AIRS is a reference tool rather than a shipment approval. Ask the importer to confirm required permits, certificates, and product conditions before authorizing production or dispatch.

Confirm the Canadian business importing the order

Establish the importer and its CARM registration and import program account. CBSA's onboarding guidance explains the commercial-importer setup and broker delegation. Do not assume that a supplier's offer of delivered transport also establishes the buyer's customs account.

Assign a contact for entry questions and document approvals. If a non-resident business will import, have its representative confirm the appropriate registration path. The receiving warehouse and importer may be different entities, and both should be identified before departure.

Treat moisture, volume, and handling as purchase details

Request finished packing dimensions and gross weight, plus photographs where handling is unusual. For furniture or natural-material goods, describe the product and packaging separately. Ask the supplier to identify solid-wood packing components so the applicable packaging review is not missed.

Record stacking limits, moisture-control measures, and unloading requirements in the order file. A bulky but lightweight shipment may compare differently by air, LCL, and FCL. Ask for the charge basis rather than assuming the lowest net-weight offer is the lowest delivered cost.

Confirm temperature-sensitive scope before requesting space

For temperature-sensitive cargo, specify the required conditions, tolerances, packaging, and monitoring needs. Ask the proposed provider to confirm acceptance for each handoff. A general air or ocean offer does not establish a continuous controlled-temperature service.

For shelf-life-sensitive goods, give the importer production and expiry information and the receiving requirements. Plan how delays or inspections would affect saleable life. Do not substitute an optimistic transport estimate for a product-specific viability review.

Include the Canadian inland movement in the comparison

State the final Canadian postal code, receiving hours, and appointment process. Compare origin collection, departure handling, international transport, import services, destination handling, and delivery as separate stages. A port-to-port offer leaves important work outside the quoted scope.

Ask the broker for shipment-specific Canadian classification and duty treatment. Record freight, insurance, government charges, brokerage, and any excluded storage separately. Quote validity and currency assumptions matter when purchase approval and actual departure are several weeks apart.

What to send before placing the transport order

Prepare the Thai pickup address, seller and exporter details, Canadian importer and delivery point, ready date, product composition, origin, packed measurements, and handoff term. Include temperature or shelf-life requirements and pending CFIA checks where relevant. This keeps transport planning tied to the actual purchase rather than a country-name template.

Common Questions

Does a food supplier's export certificate approve Canadian import?

Not by itself. The Canadian importer must confirm the applicable commodity requirements and documentation.

Can temperature control be assumed from an air quote?

No. Obtain acceptance for the specified conditions across each handoff.

Is Canadian inland delivery always included?

No. Confirm the final postal code and which destination stages are in the offer.
